Farm steading for Cnoc Caise

A site has been selected for the new steading at Cnoc Caise and planning consent obtained for a new Algo portal frame shed. Work is under way to construct the building, which is designed to house 30 cattle, with site works almost complete.

This work, which is sponsored by SNH, is intended to result in a series of Best Practice guides along the lines of those already produced for deer management.

Ardtalla SRDP woodland successfully established

The new native woodland has been successfully planted with grant aid under the SRDP. A good growing season has allowed successful establishment of the mix of birch, oak, alder, willow, aspen and hazel.

Ardtalla SRDP woodland establishment commences

A 200 acre new native woodland is planned on the Ardtalla estate in south east Islay, grant support for which has been obtained under the SRDP. Contractors are now engaged in the erection of the perimeter deer fence and ground preparation using inverted mounds. Planting of the trees, which include oak, birch, alder and aspen, is due to commence in December and expected to take around two months.
